‘Fame is dangerous’ — Barry Jhay opens up on challenges of being famous

Nigerian singer Barry Jhay has opened up about the challenges of being a public figure, describing fame as dangerous and saying he would rather have wealth without the burden of public attention.

The singer made the remarks while reflecting on his journey in the music industry, his family background and the difficulties he faced following the death of his father, Fuji icon Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.

According to Barry Jhay, the pressures that come with fame can be overwhelming, making him question whether he would choose the same path if given another opportunity.

“Fame is dangerous. In my next life, I don’t want to have a talent or be famous; I just want to be rich,” he said.

The singer also spoke about growing up with certain privileges because of his family background before his father’s death changed his circumstances.

“I was born a Nepo baby, but after losing my dad and everything, I am hustling like a Lapo baby,” he said.

Barry Jhay described the experience as a “sweet-bitter feeling”, explaining that while he enjoyed some privileges growing up, losing his father significantly changed his reality and forced him to work for himself.
